ABOUT ME

A passionate filmmaking graduate with a 1st class honours degree from Manchester School of Art. Keen to challenge myself, I wrote and directed an original musical for my graduate film. I was awarded ‘Best Director’ by acclaimed filmmaker Francis Lee and officially selected for BAFTA recognised short film festival, Aesthetica. The film went onto win Best Drama at The Royal Television Society North West Student Awards.   My work experience includes creating promotional videos for The Royal Court Theatre, music videos for singer Chinchilla and press junket and red carpet interviews for Into Film. I have needed to respond creatively to briefs, meet high pressure deadlines and maintain good communication with the client to ensure a high quality end product. In my own projects, I have managed teams, adapted to a variety of challenging roles and inspired actors to deliver my vision. Now, I am hungry to break into the industry and keen to exercise my enthusiasm for a medium that endlessly inspires me.

Work Exprience/ Achievements

Writer/Director  2018: I spent my final year at university writing and directing a musical short for my graduate film. Acclaimed director Francis Lee awarded the film ‘Best Director’. It has since been selected for the BAFTA recognised short film festival, Aesthetica. The project gave me invaluable experience on how to manage a team, see a creative vision through to fruition, prove my adaptability as a composer, lyricist, editor and co-producer, and work within a tight budget to produce a high quality, award winning piece of work.

Freelance Filmmaker 2016: I was commissioned by The Royal Court Theatre to create two promotional videos for its brand new festival ‘Open Court’, where young theatre makers were given the space to develop and perform their own projects. Liaising with the theatre’s promotional team, I shot and edited a launch video as well as a further film chronicling the festival. This provided invaluable experience of how to follow a specific brief, incorporate on going feedback and meet high-pressure deadlines.

Reporter  2013-2016 : ‘Into Film’ is a charity that educates young people through film.  I was selected to be a young reporter as part of the talent development scheme. I conducted press junket and red carpet interviews with major stars and directors, including: Eddie Redmayne, Mike Leigh, Ralph Fiennes, Stephen Frears, Ken Loach, Patricia Arquette, Felicity Jones.  My job was to get the best from the interviewees and be articulate and probing in my questioning. I tried to do this with a balance of warmth, charm, wit and deep interest in my subject.

Runner 2015: My job as a runner on the film ‘The Forbidden Note’ allowed me to gain experience of how a set runs, respond quickly to the needs of those around me and be a part of a passionate filmmaking team.

Festival Coordinator 2013: During my GCSE year I made my first short film, ‘Directors Cut’. An ambition to see it on the big screen led me to organise ‘The Movies of Tomorrow’, an independent short film festival that showcased the passion projects of local young filmmakers.  The event was screened at The Phoenix Cinema. Each film was followed by a short interview (that I produced) where each filmmaker discussed their concept and the challenges they faced. I commissioned a logo, contacted local newspapers for press coverage and invited family, friends and film contacts for feedback.  I leant a lot about organisation, how to channel ambition into action and see a project through to completion.
